"This album is Ivanov’s profession of love for the clarinet works of Balada. From the thoughtful programming to the kaleidoscope of characters weaving throughout each piece, the listener can hear the delight he has for each phrase. This album has convinced me that these works have a wealth of musical possibilities and should be celebrated as important contributions to the
clarinet repertoire. Ivanov’s rich sound, flashy technique and color palette, combined with his incredibly talented collaborators, make listening to these pieces compelling. I highly recommend exploring this album for a truly vibrant treat!"

"This collection of chamber music featuring clarinet, as played by Bulgarian clarinetist Ivan Ivanov, introduces the contemporary Spanish composer Leonardo Balada.

The 2010 Double Concerto is heard here in a 2012 transcription by the composer for chamber ensemble, with the original second solo instrument, oboe, replaced by flute. This is a premiere recording. It is a fascinating work, with a fantastical language similar to what is displayed in the Caprichos. …As a tone poem of sorts it works well, especially given the colorful and dramatically focused performances of Ivanov and flutist Kristine Rominski." © 2021 Fanfare

…"There are some wonderful passages that should bring a smile to those who, like yours truly, are a fool for a clarinet. The program opens with Caprichos No. 7 “Fantasies of La Tarara” from 2009, a chamber concerto for clarinet and instrumental ensemble, which on this recording comprises two violins, a cello, piano, and percussion.

…If you have an adventurous ear—and especially if you are a fan of the clarinet—you might want to give it a listen." © 2020 Classical Candor

"Fusing traditional and contemporary elements, Caprichos Nos. 6 and 7 engage intimately with Spanish culture and history, while the virtuoso Double Concerto, heard here in an arrangement for flute, clarinet and piano, blends well-known Mexican folk tunes with the composer’s distinctive avant-garde style." © 2020 Records International
